Lego is now moving into the future, announcing its plans to substitute its raw material to be made from Sugar Cane!
Aiming to have the new material rolled out across most products by 2030, this is an ambitious move by the Danish Toy Giant and one of the biggest plastics manufacturers in the world.
The Polyethylene based polymer was designed aimed at meeting guidelines set by environmental activists WWF, owing to the absorption of CO2 by sugar cane during the growth stage. The polymer itself isn’t biodegradable like PLA for example, another Sugar Cane substitute polymer, however, is highly recyclable.

We are proud that the first LEGO elements made from sustainably sourced plastic are in production and will be in LEGO boxes this year.?This is a great first step in our ambitious commitment of making all LEGO bricks using sustainable materials,? said Tim Brooks, Vice President, Environmental Responsibility at the LEGO Group.
The green ?Plants from Plants? range will be distributed free with purchases of $40 and more from the Lego store in the UK, US, Canada, Germany and Austria for the next few days.
